It’s May and the bluebells are out and the swallows have arrived. Spring is finally here! May is Naturally Healthy month, the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the spring flowers and birdsong. There are plenty of events to get involved with to celebrate this glorious time of year. Fancy a bat walk at Tidcombe Bridge along the Grand Western Canal; tai chi in the park at Okehampton; or go on a canoe safari down the river Axe; or partake in a ‘Tweets and Toast’ dawn chorus and breakfast in Exeter – on International Dawn Chorus Day? Yarner Wood is the place to go for it’s Spring Woodland Festival on the 19th May for a family friendly day in the woods. If the warmer weather makes you want to head to the coast, look for rare nesting seabirds along Exmoor’s dramatic coastline on a Lynmouth Boat Trip or go for a butterfly hunt and beach tidy up at Plymouth. Or mastermind your own outdoor adventures by visiting any number of wonderful places to visit near you in Devon, and look at our sections on Walking, Cycling, Landscape, Wildlife and Horse riding.
Don’t forget the Devon County Show is on the 17-19th May, a magnificent show of Devon’s food, farming and rural life. The #WeAreDevon marquee will be promoting a variety of things including ‘One Small Step to a healthier you’, the new healthy lifestyle service.
