National Parks Week runs from Monday 25th to Sunday 31st July and this year’s theme is adventure. You could join mini-beast safaris and worm hunts at the ‘Wild Science on Dartmoor’ event on the 30th July. Perhaps you want to dust off your compass and get some navigation training on a refresher day on 31st July near Poundsgate, Dartmoor. There is a family walk and treasure hunt on 30th July at Raleigh Cross, Exmoor. Some adventures are completely free and you can do them independently at your own pace. If you like treasure hunting try letterboxing, which originated on Dartmoor in 1854, or the modern equivalent geocaching if you have GPS. Or if you just want to take it easy and appreciate our National Parks, just lie back and gaze at the stars at Exmoor, Europe’s first Dark Sky Reserve!
