Today, the 18th April 2017 is World Heritage Day 2017 and is an opportunity to showcases the UK’s ’Wonders of the World’ in a global day of celebration. Devon is very fortunate in having parts of two of these fantastic World Heritage Sites – the Jurassic Coast in East Devon and Cornish Mining in West Devon so why not get out and enjoy a visit to one of these Sites today?
Information about both these Sites are available on the Jurassic Coast or Cornish Mining websites or there are ideas for walks or cycle rides at the Tamar Trails through some of the former mining landscapes in the west or why not try a walk at Beer to view some of the outstanding geology that made East Devon’s Jurassic Coast so famous.
World Heritage Day offers an opportunity to learn more about the diversity of cultural and natural heritage we have in Devon, the UK and across the world, and the efforts that are required to look after it. April 18th is an ‘official’ international celebration day and this year’s theme is sustainable tourism.
