Ashculm Turbary

About this route

Ashculm Turbary is a 7-hectare nature reserve in the Blackdown Hills, managed by Devon Wildlife Trust. It features rare wet-peatland habitat fed by freshwater springs, supporting peat-loving plants like sundew and bog asphodel. The reserve is rich in wildlife, including dragonflies, dormice, harvest mice, and reptiles such as adders and grass snakes. Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), it offers a 45-minute walking trail through lowland heath and wet woodland, ideal for quiet nature exploration.

Getting Around

By car: 2.5 miles north of Hemyock. Follow Station Road from Hemyock, then Coombe Hill. Park your car on the main road and access the track by foot only.
