Veilstone Moor Culm Grassland
- About this route
-
Veilstone Moor is an area where every type of Culm is found here – from dry heathland grasses, to water-filled ditches, to damp wildflower-rich meadows and even quaking mires. It is a Devon Wildlife Trust reserve.
Old hedgebanks here provide wildlife corridors through which small mammals including stoats, weasels, field voles and wood mice move. In the summer, these fields are full of Culm wildflowers – including meadow buttercups, bird’s foot tremoil, Devil’s scabious and early purple orchids.
