Avon Valley Woods

About this route

Avon Valley Woods is a beautiful stretch of ancient woodland in South Devon, covering around 139 hectares near Woodleigh. Managed by the Woodland Trust, it includes Avon Wood, Aveton Wood, Centry Wood, and Watkins Wood—some of the first woodlands the Trust ever acquired back in 1972. The area is full of winding paths, steep valley slopes, and diverse wildlife, making it a great spot for a peaceful walk.

These woods are home to a rich variety of plants and animals, with the River Avon running through, adding to the vibrant ecosystem. Devon Wildlife Trust has also been working here for over a decade, helping to restore wildflower meadows, improve woodland health, and keep the river water clean. It’s a fantastic example of conservation in action, offering a haven for wildlife and a beautiful escape for nature lovers.
